The American Shotcrete Association has elected new leadership
for 2008. Election results were announced during the
association’s 2008 Annual Membership Meeting and Awards
Banquet on January 21, 2008 in Las Vegas at the
Treasure Island Hotel & Casino just prior to the World
of Concrete. ASA's new President, for a two year term, is Chris
Zynda of Joseph J. Albanese, Inc., Santa Clara, CA.
ASA's new Vice President, also for a two year term, is Patrick
Bridger of Allentown Shotcrete Technology, Inc.,
Allentown, PA. Joe Hutter of King Packaged Materials
Co., Burlington, Ontario was elected for a one-year term as
secretary and reelected treasurer was Michael P. Cotter. Along with Past President Dr. Dudley
R. “Rusty” Morgan of AMEC Earth & Environmental,
Vancouver, British Columbia, these officers will serve as
the ASA’s 2008 Executive Committee.
Elected to the ASA Board of Directors were Jean-Francois Dufour
of King Packaged Materials Co., Blainville, Qubec; Ryan
Poole of DOMTEC International LLC, Idaho Falls, Idaho;
and Dan Millette of The Euclid Chemical Company,
Cleveland, Ohio. Continuing to serve as ASA Directors are Tom
Norman of Airplaco Equipment Co., Inc., Cincinnati,
Ohio; Howard Robbins of Trusdell Corporation,
Phoenix, Arizona; Joe Tortorella of J. Tortella Swimming Pools, Inc.,
Southhampton, New York; Raymond Schallom, III, of RCS
Consulting & Construction Company, Ripley, West Virginia; Andrea Scott of Hydro Arch, Henderson, Nevada; and Ted
Sofis of Sofis Company, Inc., Clinton, Pennsylvania. Completing terms of service were Joe Hutter of King
Packaged Materials Company, Burlington, Ontario; Dr. Marc
Jolin of Laval University, Quebec City, Quebec; and Mark
Lukkarila of GCC of America, Denver, Colorado.
Dr.
Dudley R. “Rusty” Morgan made a few brief remarks about
the 2008 election results before handing over the microphone
to ASA's new president, Chris Zynda. President Zynda
said several kind words about Dr. Morgan's accomplishments
with ASA during his term before accepting the challenge of
his new presidency.
After
the presentation of the Third Annual Outstanding Shotcrete Project
Awards, Past President Morgan presented the second annual
Carl Akeley Award to Knut F. Garshol on behalf of himself
and his co-author, Lauro Lacerda of BASF Construction
Chemicals, LLC, for their paper, "Watertight Permanent
Shotcrete Linings in Tunneling and Underground
Construction.".
Past
President Morgan announced his selection of Peter C. Tatnall
as the recipient of the 2008 President's Award in
recognition of Mr. Tatnall's dedication to providing value
of the shotcrete process.
Before
adjourning the meeting Past President Morgan made a special
presentation. The first Honorary Lifetime Member Award
which was presented to Maeryl Issak, Peter C. Tatnall and
George Yoggy to recognize their extraordinary contributions
to ASA and the shotcrete industry.
Following this presentation President Morgan adjourned the meeting.
