What is the American Shotcrete Association?

ASA is an industry association founded in 1998 to:
- encourage and promote the use of shotcrete,
- educate and inform the construction community of the benefits of shotcrete,
- provide potential users of shotcrete with a reliable reference source, and
- support and promote training of craftsmen in the shotcrete industry.

Why is there an ASA Underground Shotcrete Education Program?

Mine operators and tunnel owners and constructors expressed an interest in educating the work force involved with using shotcrete as a ground support method to improve and ensure the quality of their constructed projects.  The program provides the basics of the shotcrete process to include materials selection and testing, basic equipment requirements, skill requirements for the nozzlemen and crew, proper shotcreting techniques, and safety considerations in the underground environment.  Educators are selected on the basis of their experience and knowledge of the use of shotcrete for ground support.

How much will the program cost?

The fee per student is available on the ASA Underground Shotcrete Education Application.

How do I schedule an ASA Underground Shotcrete Education session?

If you are interested in scheduling an underground shotcrete education session, follow these simple steps:

First, scroll down to the listing of ASA-approved Underground Educators further down this page and contact a educator of your choice to arrange the session date. All education sessions are being scheduled on an as-needed basis and are usually held at the customer's site.

Next, fill out an ASA Underground Shotcrete Education Application for each individual attending the session.

Fax the completed applications along with payment to (248) 848-3740 or mail them to ASA's home office with a check. Applications can not be accepted without a confirmed educator and session date.  Study manuals can not be mailed until applications and payment are received in full. The study materials included in the price of the program are the ACI CCS 4: Shotcrete for the Craftsman, ACI 506R-05: Guide to Shotcrete and ASA Underground Education PowerPoint handouts.

What should I keep in mind when scheduling a session?

  • All applications must be received at least 7-10 business days before the scheduled session date.

  • Additional rush shipping charges for the study manual package will be applied to any underground shotcrete education program that is not scheduled within 7-10 business days of the date the customer wishes to receive the packet materials.

  • No guarantees can be made for sessions not scheduled within 7-10 business days of session date.

  • A session can not be organized or processed until payment is received in full. Therefore, study packages can not be sent until payment is received in full. We strongly suggest that you schedule a session one month in advance to provide each student sufficient time to review the materials before the education session.

  • In the event that a session must be postponed, the rescheduled session must take place within six months or in the same year in which payment was received, which ever option is more convenient to the customer. Payments are always nonrefundable. Please take these conditions into consideration when determining your session date.
