With the strong growth of shotcrete construction, the concrete construction industry needs shotcrete contractors who are knowledgeable about the shotcrete business. This seminar is intended for the existing shotcrete contractor pursuing ASA Shotcrete Contractor Qualification. However, concrete contractors interested in learning more of the details and requirements for quality shotcrete placement of structural concrete will also find the seminar highly beneficial. Although a concrete contractor may be thoroughly experienced in form-and-pour concrete construction, shotcrete has fundamentally different equipment, material selection, crew responsibilities, application techniques, testing, curing, and protection that need to be considered for producing high-quality and durable shotcrete. This course provides “best practices” for the shotcrete contractor looking to grow and increase productivity and quality in their shotcrete applications.
This seminar provides a thorough knowledge of shotcrete placement for concrete construction, including logistics (site and project), environmental requirements, safety, crew requirements, shotcreting equipment, concrete mixture design, QA/QC, surface preparation, formwork, reinforcements, embedments, placement, finishing, curing, and protection. The seminar presenter(s) have decades of experience in shotcrete construction and thus can provide insight into the multitude of details required for successful field shotcrete placement. The presentation is highly interactive with the attendees, and questions from the attendees are welcome at any time.
References ACI/ASTM documents provided with the seminar include:
• ACI 506.2-13, “Specification for Shotcrete”
• ACI 506R-16, “Guide to Shotcrete”
• 7 ASTM/shotcrete-related testing standards compiled in one reference document
Those qualifying individuals pursuing ASA Contractor Qualification for their company who attend the 7-hour course will need to take a 90-minute written exam at the end of the seminar. You can find more about the ASA Contractor Qualification Program at www.shotcrete.org/pages/education-certification/cq-program.htm.
Charles Hanskat, PE, FACI, FASCE, ASA Executive and Technical Director, is also an ASA/ACI Examiner for the wet- and dry-mix processes. Charles also actively serves on a wide range of shotcrete-related committees including ACI and ASTM. Marcus von der Hofen is the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Coastal Gunite Construction Company. Marcus is very active in the shotcrete industry through participation in the American Shotcrete Association (ASA) and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
